This area is under construction! Any unlinked Lore articles that you see on this page are currently being written. Some articles may also be edited as we complete our September 2025 Lore updates. Please do not let this stop you from reading what is already here in order to formulate a backstory or further your knowledge about the game setting. All changes to the Lore Library will be recorded in the Lore Change Log. An announcement will be made when the Lore updates are completed and released. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
We do not expect everyone who plays our game to read every article in the Lore Library. It would make total sense if your character is not familiar with every piece of information and we don't want this to be a barrier to anyone enjoying the game. Most of this information is for anyone who has particular areas that their character would be involved in or that they would like to know more about. For example: a person playing a lawyer would want to know more about history, government, and law; a person playing a Shepherd would want to know about Elan's religion; a person playing a military veteran would want to know about the military branches, military service, the current war, and current events; and a person playing a socialite would want to know about fashion, leisure, and the important people or businesses in high class social circles.
What we suggest is that you use this library as a means of building your character and then dive into whatever else may interest you the most. You can even have some interesting reasons In-Game as to why your character does not know more about x, y, or z. Sometimes learning about things in character can be a great deal of fun! Our community is filled with "yes, and," no one will be upset with you not knowing every aspect of Lore.
For every player, however, we suggest that they read at minimum the Hargrove articles, the faction articles, the article on their character's province, and the article on Thorpe Territory. These will give you the best building blocks to get the most out of game.
You will see in the Lore below that there is nothing supernatural believed in or invented by the people of Elan. In fact, these things are fully missing. There's no supernatural literature, no cryptids, no myths - how could this be? This is by design. Elan is a country that is devoid of supernatural beliefs, though it still has folk traditions, superstitions, and signs or symbols that hold great importance in its borders. Why is there no supernatural when it is so important to real societies and cultures in the real world? All humans look at long shadows at some point and wonder if there is something lurking in them, right? This is a major plot point that we hope that players will, if their PCs are inclined, be able to tease out in their play at game. We strongly encourage the Elanites that come to Hargrove to start asking these questions as a good way to get involved in the plots we run and the stories we tell.
Elan is an expansive country in the middle of the continent of Edra on the planet Genaro. To its north is the country of Dorage and to its south is the country of Nepton. This continent is the only one known of in the whole of the planet, and the middle country is in the midst of a great industrial age. Below are links to acclimate any player with the world as it is now with information any Elanite would know. Please reach out to Lore Team if you have any questions.
The year in Elan is always is always present day minus 130 years. For example, in the real year 2022, the game year is 1892.
Information on the town Hargrove and the expedition that discovered it. Additionally, you can see the current Laws of Hargrove here.
There are four groups that exist in Hargrove and members of each have their own reason for being there. To orient yourself, take a look at each. Their motivations are different, but they're unified in the same goal: making the promise of Hargrove a reality. Motivations matter, but results matter more.
