Plot Camp is Plot Team's headquarters during an event. This is where Plot Team gathers, coordinating with each other and NPCs in order to send out plots for the game. The location can vary depending on the site where the event is held. To check where Plot Camp will be, please see the upcoming event's information page.
Players will have many reasons to come to Plot Camp. Some of these reasons may include:
To NPC
To ask clarifying questions or bring up a concern
To discuss what your character is doing, trying to do, or hoping to achieve
To discuss your character leaving town
To address your character being apprehended by or apprehending PCs or NPCs
To address your character's death
To seek out an NPC that is not currently in game
To do a mod
When entering Plot Camp to talk to Plot, please be respectful. It's a hectic place during game and Plot will not always be available when you arrive. If Plot Camp looks overly chaotic (such as when NPCs are about to be sent out or are just returning), Plot will get to you as soon as they are able.
To assist PCs without requiring them to come to Plot Camp, there will be a walkie talkie available somewhere on site (usually in the back room of the building used as the saloon). If you have a quick question, want to know if Plot needs NPCs, or want to know how busy Plot Camp is, please use these walkie talkies to reach out.
Please see the NPC Guide for more information. All NPCs are required to follow these rules.
When you volunteer for an NPC shift, please fill out your name and the game on the NPC shift list. It should be on the bulletin board in Plot Camp. If you do not sign this sheet, you will not receive XP for NPCing.
When you get to Plot Camp to NPC, always first let a member of Plot team know that you want to NPC. It might take time to assign an NPC to you. Depending on the timing, there may not be any roles needed, but you are welcome to come by later. Plot may even let you know a time at which they will need you to volunteer.
If you have been recruited for a specific NPC role by Plot, please make sure to read all character information/details that Plot sends to you. If you have not received a full write up for the NPC in question by two weeks prior to game, please email Plot. Let them know if you have questions as soon as possible, at least a week before game. Please also try to show up at least an hour before your shift so that you have plenty of time to garb up and get any last minute briefings.
Game can be stressful, both when you are having a great time and also if game isn’t going as desired. There can be a lot of information to take in and lore to keep track of. Maybe an NPC made a mistake, maybe a plot didn’t go how some thought it would, or maybe you do not feel included. Whatever the reason, Plot Team wants to do what they can to help your game. We ask that the community follow the guidelines below.
Be as clear as possible with what you are looking for. Whether it be information, guidance, confirmation of what happened and what that meant, we want to help. Come to us with what your character thinks is going on and context for how they are making these assumptions. We want to clarify as much as possible, even if we can only point you in the direction of the answers without giving them away. While Plot can’t be up front with all the machinations of their plots, we will always be honest.
Come to us with the understanding that there is a lot that a character or player may not know about what is going on in game. Confusion and frustration can often be addressed through questions. If you or your character need guidance, Plot Team will provide as much as possible without compromising the plots being run.
Do not be rude or aggressive when speaking with Plot Team. If you are angry or frustrated about something, that's okay, but please take some time to regulate before coming to Plot Camp. Aggression and verbal abuse is not welcome in our game and may end with a discussion with Game Runners. If a player mistreats any member of Plot or an NPC, they will be asked to leave Plot Camp and possibly the event.
Trust in Plot Team to run game. Not every situation will have the intended effect on every character, but we are creating a myriad of stories with many possible outcomes for the community to engage in. We are as organized as possible and ask that you have faith in both our capabilities and devotion to putting on an event.
Plot Team cannot control the actions of other characters. Our goal is to put power in the hands of characters to shape the world. If a character makes a choice that has wide-spread consequences, that was the choice of the character and we will take it into consideration while we continue to send out plots. If you have an issue with another character or group of characters, consider talking to those players first.
If the concern or complaint is more serious than just the regular highs, lows, or complications of game, such as a violation of rules or of policies, other staff members may be called in to assist you. Sometimes we do not have the ability to help, but we will try to find you a proper person to address the situation. Players should be willing to talk to these other members of staff.
Every character has goals and plans, sometimes they can be played inside the confines of game space, and sometimes they can’t. Other times you will find that your character has been pulled out of game by extenuating circumstances. These situations, and more, are great reasons to come to Plot Camp. Plot wants to help you tell your character's story, so please read below in order to best collaborate with the team.
This is meant to be an enjoyable game weekend for you, and Plot is working from game-on to game-off to make that happen. Plot welcomes you to come in to talk about your character!
When you come to talk, please have an idea of what your character is trying to do. Listing methods and goals are the best way to do this. The more ideas you have and the more concise you can be, the better the collaboration will be.
When discussing what your character would like to do, Plot may be unable to accommodate some ideas. However, we will always work to find ways to include as much as we can. We prioritize your experience and how you want to interact with the world we are giving you, but we cannot promise that everything will go as a player requests.
A character doing something dangerous inside or outside of game space can lead to that character being harmed or even killed. If the action you wish to undertake will lead to damage, Plot will let you know and may warn you. If you choose to continue with that course of action you must accept that you could lose your character. Any consequences and deaths, as much as possible, will be handled in game space.
Unfortunately, there may be times when Plot Camp is too busy to talk at points during the game. This does not mean the team does not care about you or your character, just that accommodating discussions may be challenging or unable to take place. If this happens, it would be better to come back to Plot Camp later. There may be a specific time that they can give you that would be better for the discussion.
If the actions you wish to take will not affect the current game or how your character interacts with others during the rest of game, please send Plot an email outlining your plans instead of coming to Plot Camp.
Please speak to Plot concerning what happens outside of town, if your character is able to return, and how your character may return (such as by escaping from an NPC).
This may result in your character being away from town for a duration of time, but it will be as minimal as possible since Plot does not want to take time away from your event. During that time you may go rest or NPC.
Before returning to game as your character, you must have received information from Plot as to what has occurred during your absence.
In some cases, you may have to wait until the following game to bring your character back into town. You may choose to NPC for the rest of the weekend or leave game early. If you choose to leave early, please cause as little disturbance as possible when gathering your gear.
If your character is bringing a PC or NPC to NPC authorities, you must have a conversation with Plot about what happened, why your character is the one bringing in the PC/NPC, and what you are hoping will happen. After that you may return to game.
If your character is the one being handed over to the NPC authorities, Plot will have a conversation with you about what the requirements are for your character to return to game. Your character may need to be away from game for a duration of time, but it will be as minimal as possible since Plot does not want to take time away from your event. During that time you may go rest or NPC.
Please come to Plot Camp. The loss of a character is hard and emotions are high after character death, and Plot hopes that you come to us instead of quickly packing up and going home. There may also be further discussion necessary. If you do choose to leave, please email Plot your account of your character's death.
When you arrive at Plot Camp, a member of Plot will have a discussion with you about the way your character died. If there are additional options available to your character, this is when Plot will work those out with you.
After Plot has confirmed your character’s death and logged the appropriate information, you may choose to either leave early, NPC for the rest of the event, or play a CG-approved backup character. If you choose to leave early please cause as little disturbance as possible when gathering your gear.
To speak to an NPC that is not currently in game space, please be clear why your character is seeking them out and what you are hoping to gain from the interaction. If the person who plays that NPC is unavailable, Plot Team may have to answer in their stead. We will try to answer any questions or plan a scene, otherwise we will plan on sending that NPC back out at the soonest availability. If we are unable to send out that NPC by the end of game, as that sometimes happens based on a person’s health or Plot’s schedule, please come back to Plot Camp after game to clarify what happened.
To do a mod, please be sure that you are prepared. If there are too few in your party, Plot Team may say that you get the feeling that you need additional people to complete the mod. It’s always a good idea to bring people along with you. If certain skillsets are required, we will try to include those requirements upfront before you come to Plot Camp.
